Tailwheel differences training

Tail wheel differences training is a requirement for pilots converting on to a tail wheel aircraft for the first time.   We use the Piper L21b Super Cub for all our tailwheel training. Redhill, with its choice of grass runways, is the ideal environment for the tail dragger.

The course typically consists of five hours dual/solo flying together with ground school covering the following topics:

  • Physical differences;
  • Loading and Effect of CG Position;
  • Ground handling;
  • Starting and taxying;
  • Taking-off;
  • Landings including 2-point “Wheelers” and 3-point landings;
  • Crosswind operations;
  • Parking and mooring.
